A member asked:

Please explain what are your chances of developing schizophrenia if it does not run in your family at all?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Chance: The risk for the general population is 1%. The risk of developing schizophrenia from one parent with the illness is about 6.5%. There seems to be many different genes involved. There are still a lot of unknowns. Peak periods of onset are usually late adolescence and early adulthood. See the graph i added. It gives you an idea of the genetics involved.
