Pain, mostly: Getting your tonsils out hurts. The worst of the pain is the first 3 days but usually doesn't let up until around day 10. You'll know you had something done for 3 weeks. I would usually take at least one week off work and consider 10 days or 2 weeks, depending on your job. There is about a 3 percent risk of bleeding that would require surgery to stop. About 15% bleed and stop on their own.
