A member asked:

Good day, my daughter is 8 years old and keeps on getting tonsillitis. my gp refuses to give us a referel to a specialist for a tonsillectomy. what can i do ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Some basics: There are few reasons for tonsillectomy in modern health care. Five to 8 confirmed strep/yr , sleep apnea & tonsilar abscess are the basic indications. Tonsil removal does not stop strep or throat infections but can limit the severity when they do happen. If you really want them out get a 2nd opinion.
