Treatment: Canker sores normally lasts one to two weeks, but gum swelling is probably due to infection, need to see a dentist for evaluation and treatment..

Depends: Should see a dentist to determine just what it is. If herpes, you may treat it with an antiviral medication. If aphthous ulcer, then topical will only make it numb -- not reduce the swelling. They both take 10 - 14 days to resolve. Warm salt water rinses (1 tsp salt, 12 oz. Water) 3-4 times a day seems to help most patients. Good luck.
