Mucoid plaques : Ptosis surgery initially can elevate eyelids apart so that they don't completely close or stay closed. This results in exposure keratitis or keratopathy. The irritation of the cornea hurts and mucous secretion by the eyeball can adhere to the surface of the cornea (mucoid plaques) ; dead desiccated corneal epithelium can cling on to the cornea creating filaments (filamentary keratitis).
