Reflux: As you correctly surmise acid gets into your lungs.As a foreign substance it triggers off asthma symptoms.

Breathing Acid: Yes. Of course. If you have acid in your esophagus, there are vapors of acid and probably some fluid droplets that you inhale, especially when laying down. This causes a bronchospasm that you experience as asthma.
