See your doctor asap: If only one tonsil is greatly swollen you could have a peri-tonsil abscess and should be seen asap.

Go together : Due to some 'crosstalk' in the nerves, a sore throat often does result in some ear pain. If you have a swollen tonsil on only 1 side, that's unusual and you should be seen by a doctor. If you are having fever or trouble opening your mouth, you should see an ENT or head to the er urgently to make sure you don't have an abscess.
