Type 1 diabetes and hiv, can these affect each other?

Maybe: Diabetes is an autoimmune condition and HIV weakens the immune system...So they could both affect the immune system. However with proper medication and controlling the diabetes all can be well.

Chronic Illnesses: Yes. But, today, in america, with access to good health care, the HIV may be the least of your worries. I am finding it harder to get my patients with long term diabetes to anywhere close to good control whereas my HIV patients are often very well suppressed on their HIV cocktail and we have very little complications from a weakened immune system.
