A member asked:

Can having to much sugar/soda cause oral yeast infection?i dont have hiv or diabetes. what could be causing me to have a yeast infection in my mouth?

Likely not: Yeast does like to grow in moist places and with sugar. However, without recent antibiotics or diabetes,HIV,etc would be unlikely in mouth.A white coat tongue alone usually is not yeast and would need to be inside on sides of mouth cheeks,Yeast will not scrap off without bleeding also.If it is yeast something else is going on-recent antibiotics or diabetes etc.Get seen.

Lower sugar: Although the sugar/soda itself may not be responsible for the thrush, this is associated with conditions that can cause and worsen this condition. Diabetes & a weakened immune system are associated with thrush & sugary drinks are associated with these conditions. Obesity caused by too much sugar causes & exacerbates these problems. Dental caries can also be caused by sugary drinks.
