Meats, Green Veggies: Iron rich foods include meats, poultry, fish, green vegetables, oatmeal, and beans. Vitamin c (found in citrus like oranges) increases iron absorption. There is a nice explanation of the two types of iron found in food and a list of iron rich foods at http://www.Redcrossblood.Org/learn-about-blood/health-and-wellness/iron-rich-foods.

Iron?: If you have iron deficiency anemia (ida). I would ask these questions -- 1) what is the cause -- and then fix it if possible - eg stomach ulcers, colon cancer, etc. 2) how severe is the ida (by hgb, ferritin, etc). Then if the gut is working can try oral iron. If not can use IV iron. Iron supplements are relatively cheap and measurable vs. Foods.
