Not for anemia: Bleeding from an ulcer or GI malignancy needs to be excluded. Iron deficiency in a male might indicated some kind of malabsorption . If due to celiac disease wheat and oat bran need to be excluded. Another possibility is poor stomach acid from taking acid blocker medications. Smokers can develop iron deficiency anemia from exposure to cadmium. Find the cause of the iron deficiency.
