Depends on your past: It depends on your past immunization If you have had primary immunization with dpt pediatric vaccine 5 doses given before age 6.Then you need a booster every 10 years only Otherwise you start with primary immunization and booster after 10 years

Coincidence: Tdap sometimes causes physical symptoms other than arm soreness, but not cold symptoms. For info about vaccines and their side effects go to cdc web site: http://www.Cdc.Gov/vaccines/vac-gen/side-effects.Htm#td.
A 40-year-old member asked:

How long is the tdap vaccine effective for?

Depends: When given to a 2 month old with an immature immune system its benefits begin to wain within 3-6 months(which is why they get boosters). If given to a five year old who completed the primary series, you get 5-10 yrs which is about all you can get with the adult preparation in the adult population..

Those in occupations like landscape work or who garden as a hobby may want to consider using the 5 yr mark as the limit.Frequent & direct contact with tetanus spores & occasional wounds involved make tetanus a bit more likely. The other agents, not so much.

Tdap is not the same as dtap vaccine. It is a vaccine which is given at 11years of age and ower for adults to boost their immunity to all three ingredients of it which is Tetanus,Diptheria and Whooping cough and is not given to babies and younger children. If you have had primary immunisation in childhood with 5 doses of Dtap than a booster at age 11years and than a booster every 10 years is all that is needed. But those who have not had childhood dtap 5 doses they need to get more frequent boosters

Dr. Yash Khanna

Tdap shots: Tdap shots are routinely given at age of 11 years, but can be given as early as age 7, for children who missed a dose of dtap vaccine.Adults over age of 19, should get a dose of tdap and booster every 10 years..
A 38-year-old member asked:

I wonder which kind of doctor can I go to get a tdap vaccine shot?

Dr. Randolph Thomas

Primary care doctor: Most doctors or nurse practitioners or pa's could give you the tdap. If you haven't had a tdap, possibly you haven't been seen for a check up in a few years. This would be a good time to go. If you are up to date on check-ups and doctor's visits are a financial hardship, the vaccine can be obtained at the health dept and many pharmacies.
A 31-year-old member asked:

What age should you get a tdap vaccine?

AT 11 YEARS AGE AND : First dose of tdap is recommended at age of 11 years, and booster every 10 years.
Dr. Alfredo Garcia
Pediatrics 56 years experience
For adults who need a tetanus booster at any age, get the TdaP. Adults who received only the regular Td (n matter when) should also get the TdaP. Adults in a household with children, especially a newborn, should also get the Tdap. Since there is growing rise in new pertussis case, all adults hould get the TdaP.
