Yes, if: He has only had one shot. Protection is provided by a series of shots. For maximum protection he needs the full series as scheduled. Until then his protection is incomplete.

No But you mean dtap: The childhood vaccine is dtap and tdap is the adult vaccine and given to children over the age of 11 and adults If he/she had full full five doses of dtap he will not get Pertussis

Depends: The shot helps build immunity but has its limitations. If faced with a heavy exposure anyone can get pertussis at any age.Their intensity of symptoms would vary.The kids risk of dying with it is eliminated with a single dose, but the best protection requires the complete series and boosters as scheduled. Even immunized folks can become carriers in an epidemic.Get them all and you have done enough.
