Dr. Dinh Bui answered

Leukoplakia: White gum, or white patch that cannot be rubbed off with a gauze or cotton or a rag is termed leukoplakia. It is the beginning of epithelial change as the outside layer thickening. If it change to red, it is becoming erythroplakia with invasion of blood vessel to supply the lesion growth. Stop smoking or chewing tobacco immediately at this stage because acanthosis will begin and then carcinoma.
