I'm wondering what is the purpose of rubber bands for braces?

Force: The "medicine" we use in orthodontics is force. When we apply force bone on one side of a tooth dissolves away while new bone is laid down on the other side. Rubber bands allow us to direct force in specific directions, moving one or more teeth to, ow are optimal positions. Wear your elastics exactly as directed by your orthodontist. Remember, if your not wearing them, you're making no progress.
