How to know when to stop wearing rubber bands for braces?

2 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Orthodontist Knows: Your orthodontist will prescribe your rubber bands duration, direction and force level. Wear your rubber bands exactly as directed by your orthodontic team. Your periodic check appointments are to monitor tooth movement and elastic progress. Ask him/her at your next appointment.

When: When they have accomplished the movement your specialist Orthodontist has programmed into your individualized treatment plan. Rubber bands are totally useless if they are not in your mouth. So go looking for reasons to wear them, not for excuses not to. The better you follow instructions, the sooner your Orthodontist will be able to say, "Done!"
