Sensitivity: Treatment of sensitivity depends on the cause: recession, gum disease, grinding, abfractions (grooved teeth at the gumline), fractured teeth. Toothpaste does not always help. Fluoride may need to be re-applied. Ask your dentist about Fluoride varnish. There are bonding agents that can also be applied to decrease sensitivity, and some areas may need fillings/bonding.

Brushing too hard?: I tell all my patients to stop 'brushing', and think 'massaging' when they are brushing their teeth. Many people have wearing away of the gums and teeth from brushing over aggressively for too many years...And this results in sensitivity !
