I have what appears to be hairy leukoplakia, but tested negative for hiv. what are other possibilities?

Many possibilities: Fortunately, the viability of HIV is very short lived outside of the body and is not contagious once exposed to air and surfaces that dry. Many other possibilities to causes for leukoplakia, best manner for a definitive diagnosis is with tissue biopsy.
