Hi doctors, my daughter is depressed and cuts herself. what do we do?

Treatment: Your daughter should be seen by her family doctor to rule out any physical causes of her psychiatric condition. She should then be referred to a psychiatrist for a full evaluation and treatment as well as to a psychologist who has experience dealing with those who self harm. The only medication that I have had success with in terms of decreasing the urge to self cut is an antihistamine antianxiety medication called hydroxyzine. It can be sedating so it needs to be dosed up slowly. Eventually, while it does not knock out the thoughts of cutting, it certainly greatly reduces the urgeas well as the frequency and intensity of events.Best wishes and i hope things truly go well for your daughter.
