Unlikely: You may chip a tooth by biting something hard but unlikely to break a jaw unless ofcourse you have very weak bone in the jaw because of some type of cancer or other rare condition that maked the jaw bone very weak.

Broken jaw chewing: Absolutely! patients can fracture their jaws chewing. A deeply imbedded wisdom tooth or jaw disease or tumor can weaken the jawbone. Fractures through them or even where a wisdom tooth has been removed do occur. Cases usually involve chewing hard candy or ice and patients remember the "snap". Patients with no teeth and severe jawbone atrophy or osteoporosis may also have "pathological" fractures.
