A member asked:

How to treat radial head fractures & how long until you can return to hard sports?

Depends: Non-displaced fractures of the radial head are managed without surgery. If fracture is displaced, surgery to repair or replace the fractured radial head. Fractures that need to heal require approximately 6 weeks to consolidate, with gradual rerun to activities to follow. Heavy work of sports typically done safely at 3 months.

Varies: It varies based upon the nature of the fracture and also the nature of the sport you are returning to. Nondisplaced fractures are splinted and usually heal by 6-8 weeks. Displaced fractures usually require surgery, but once they are fixed have a similar healing time.
