A member asked:

Is there a way for a dentist to ensure that fillings and crown margins are sealed by application of a sealant, years after crowns have been placed?

Crown seal: Unfortunately there is no way other than the use of the explorer around the areas that were sealed.

Not 100%: Dentists routinely check margins of restorations with an explorer and with x-rays, but that's only partially successful. Eventually restorations break down and require replacement. Periodic dental examinations help guard against small problems becoming severe problems.
