Sure: If your dentist wants to make a temporary crown out of composite material, why not? It would be less expensive to use acrylic, but composite can work just fine. Each office will use accepted materials to temporize a prepared tooth, based on preference.

Temporary: As long as the temporary is properly sealed bite is good, and it holds for the duration needed until the final crown is cemented on, it should be okay. Make sure it holds well.
