Small bad/Big bad: Petit mal (small bad) as opposed to grand mal (big bad) are early simple descriptions of the intensity of disruption a seizure may have with the victim. In the petit mal patient the brain wave disruption is often brief, having the effect of one zoning out for a moment & coming back without knowledge of the event. It is a brain wave disturbance that is controllable with meds.
