Gum abscess: Abscess is pus collection. Infection is the cause of that. Infection usually sets in in the presence of poor oral hygiene. You will need to see dentist and have comprehensive exam and treatment plan worked out.

Abscess: First it is important that it is diagnosed as a true abscess, as other abscess-like conditions may need totally different care. If it is an abscess, its cause needs to be determined. Gum infection from gum disease? Tooth infection from decay / from root canal / cracked root? Once your dentist confirms the abscess, you are likely advised to have it drained, and/or take antibiotics.
