Get it checked: It is not usual, however you may be having issues related to having your mouth open for an extended period of time. You should consult the dentist.

Jaw pain (TMJ): The cleaning did not cause the pain. Your symptoms suggest that your mouth was held open further than you normally do and the muscle is in spasm. Use moist heat on the side of your face just in front of the ear. When warm, SLOWLY exercise your jaw by taking it forward, then slowly open as far as you can, then slowly close. Repeat until you can open about 3 inches with no pain.
