Possibly: Your infection may still be local in nature. A fever may not be present. You will need more than just fillings if you have an abscess... All the best.

Not always : If it is a chronic (old) abscess it has permanent pus drainage, you are not running a fever. Acute abscess, you are running a fever. An abscessed tooth is one of those things you probably don't want to think about. Regardless if it's acute or chronic, an abscess is something you want to eliminate. With the right treatment, an abscess is easily cured.
