Not necessarily: But there are other steps to try to eradicate the ganglion cyst first. Needle drainage for example. Even if surgery becomes advised it is possible to have it done with an arm block or spinal ann aesthetic.

Many times: A ganglion cyst can be removed without the need for general anesthesia. Local or local with sedation are two common options. As far as risk, as long medical conditions such as hypertension are under controlled, risk is reduced. No procedure or surgery is without risk however, and you need to sit down with a surgeon prior to the surgery to make sure you go per what all the risks are vs the benefit.

Not particularly.: As already noted, this can often be done with local anesthesia. Nerve block or bier block (local anesthesia given intravenously) are also possible. General anesthesia is typically not needed, however if this is indicated, it can be given safely. Discuss your concerns with your anesthesiologist if it is not done with local anesthesia.
