A member asked:

I have had a mouth guard since my last appointment and now have gingivitis. could the mouth guard have caused it?

Night guard: See your dentist. Sounds like your night guard is putting too much pressure on your gums. Nedds some adjustment.

No: Gingivitis is caused by bacteria, not by night guard. If gums infected see your dentist. If appliance is impinging on gums may cause irritation--see your dentist. If appliance not put into denture cleaner daily can be source of yeast infection--see your dentist.
