Dry socket : If you get a dry socket, it will happen within 3 days of an extraction. After that, normal healing is most likely taking place. If you have a dry socket, once it is packed by the dentist, the pain will abate. If you are having discomfort after your extraction, contact your surgeon for an examination.

At 47, about two wks: Normally (age 18-25), dry socket risk is highest at 3-5 days post-extraction. At twice that age, twice the risk, twice the duration of that risk. Double those if you smoke.

A few days after: Usually dry sockets happen 2 or 3 days after the extraction. If you get, past this time frame you are probably safe.
