Herpes zoster: Shingles, caused by the varicella-zoster virus that causes chickenpox. The virus is with you the rest of your life. The vaccine is given under the skin and recommended for children under 13 and for everyone 13 or older who has never had chickenpox. 2 doses are recommended. The first dose is administered at 12 to 15 months and a second dose at 4-6 yrs, if your child has had these it should be fine.
