Hyperaldosteronism: Means too much aldosterone in the blood. Aldosterone is a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands. It helps to raise blood pressure by causing the kidney to retain salt (sodium) and thus water. As a result the kidney looses potassium. The most common cause is from a benign aldosterone secreting tumor on one of the adrenal glands.
