Switching off of toprol (metoprolol) xl 100 mg dosage. is it correct to cut dosage in half for 1 week (50 mg), then 25 mg week 2 , and 25 mg ever other day week 3?

Beta blocker: Abrupt discontinuation of beta blocker therapy, especially if one has been on it for long time, would not be recommended. There are different methods and rates of tapering off. This should be done under the supervision of your prescribing physician. In general however, every other day dosing of the medication would not be recommended.

Yes: Tapering dose is appropriate, but rate of taper varies with each individual patient, depending on reasons started and reasons for stopping. It may be appropriate to reduce faster if side effects, or if substituting another rate/bp drug. Perhaps the taper will take longer if used to treat ischemic disease. Work with your doctor.
