A member asked:

Why would my dr be testing my c3 and c4? is it looking for an autoimmune disease?

See details: From the description of your symptoms, I am not certain why the tests were ordered. C3 and C4 can be markers for kidney involvement in lupus, certain types of vasculitis and in angioedema. The best approach is to ask the doctor who ordered the tests what he/she was looking for.

Yes: Complement levels may be depressed in many autoimmune diseases but most commonly in lupus. You need to have a frank discussion with your physician as to what he suspects.
