Psychiatrist: A psychiatrist is a doctor of medicine (M.D.) who prescribes medications for disorders like bipolar disease. You will certainly need to see a psychiatrist but a therapist (typically a psychologist or social worker) can help you develop strategies for living with the disease and for making lifestyle changes that will help stabilize your mood.

See a doctor: A psychologist cannot prescribe medication. A psychiatrist or your family doctor can prescribe medication if the yare comfortable doing it.
