Depends: A pfo (patent foramen ovale) is rarely ever treated. It's very common and rarely causes symptoms. An ASD (atrial septal defect) or a vsd (ventricular septal defect) would only be closed at your age if it were large, acute, or causing symptoms. I suspect yours was found incidentally by echo? Ask your cardiologist how large it is and whether it needs treatment. Why was the echo in the first place?
