Allergy testing: If prick skin testing is done by an experieenced board certified allergist using conventional allergens and a standardized skin testing device, skin testing typically detects more than 95% of allergic patients. Intradermal testing in which allergens are injected under the skin is much less reliable and frequently over-diagnoses the presence of allergy. Prick testing should always be done first.
