A 23-year-old female asked:

How accurate is skin prick testing for food allergies? according to the test, im allergic to many things. ive never had a problem eating them though, aside from occasional discomfort with digestion. i take zantac, could that have affected results?

Zantac not issue: There are e basic tests of food allergy/intolerance. A blood test that looks at antibodies to foods (helps identify dangerous items). The pin prick that is subject to a lot of variables to accurate interpretation. The 3 rd is a diet diary that you keep noting symptoms(within 4 days) related to consumption. All are nice guides, but the diary is probably the most practical for planning your diet.

There are typically two choices when it comes to allergy testing: skin and/or blood testing. In your case, either option may be available to you to identify triggers for your symptoms. Allergists usually begin with in-office skin testing that takes 10-15 minutes of your time. Samples of allergens are placed on the skin with a small scratch, and results are available very quick. Hope this helps.
