A disc abuts spinal: In the neck at the c5-c6 level, the intervertebral disc protrudes posteriorly from the spine, and pushes upon the anterior aspect of the thecal sac that contains the spinal cord. This herniating disc material may abut or comress the spinal canal, possibly resulting with spasm.
