You probably: Need a carotid duplex ultrasound to quantify the degree of obstruction in the carotid artery. Depending on the results and your history, no treatment, medications, or non-invasive procedure, or surgery, are the usual alternatives.

Ultrasound: Carotid bruit is turbulent blood flow which can be heard with a stethoscope. It does not mean there ids significant blockage or narrowing. An ultrasound is a painless first test which which will determine the degree of blockade and if further testing or treatment is needed.
