Hard to say: It is hard to say, sight unseen what this growth might be. It may be as simple as a torus (bony exostosis), an infection, or another type of lesion. You did not mention if the lump was soft or hard, or if you smoke, or the condition of your teeth. That's why it needs to be visualized locally. Call a dentist for an appointment.

Lot of possibilities: If it is hard it could be a slow growing boney growth called a torus. If is it soft it could be swelling from a tooth abcess. There are a number of other possibilities so you really want to get it checked out.
