Needs more research: For a cure. Early identification with a way to reverse the effects of the disease (ideally neural regeneration or artificial camera chip integration into the visual cortex).

Prevalent: Glaucoma, a condition in which the internal eye pressure is higher than the eye can withstand, causes a gradual vision loss over time if not treated. It is present in all countries with slightly variable incidence of the different types. In richer countries treatment is commonly by drops, then laser, then surgery. In some poor countries, if at all, surgery is preferred as it is long lasting.
