Numbness in finger due to injury to nerve?

3 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Usually: Nerve injury causing numbness in a finger can occur anywhere from the digital nerve in the finger to the nerve roots exiting from the cervical spinal cord. Circulatory disturbances to the hand can also cause numbness. Electrical nerve testing called nerve conduction study (ncs) can localize many cases of sensory nerve injury.

Maybe: The numbness is a sign that the nerve is being traumatized in some way. It could be anywhere along its length. It could be injury or more likely compression. It could also be due to vascular insufficiency or endocrine abnormality. Please check this with a doctor.
