Fairly: Like any other diagnostic test there are degrees of variability associated with the results. If the bone age is within 6 months of the chronological age then we are doing well. Some medical conditions will alter the bone age as will ethnic differences.

Standards exist: This study relies on side by side comparisons of each study to published standards. There are some natural variations in the growth center closure sequence which creates a margin of error for every study (months). In general, the study is not only reliable, it is the go to study to decide whether other growth evaluations should be started.
