A member asked:

Is antipyrine-benzocaine ear drop used for tmj?

No: Antipyrine (fever reducer) Benzocaine (pait reliever) is for rx of earache. Tmj syndrome is a jaw joint problem, often caused or contributed to by malocclusion. Taking ear medication to treat jaw joint is like wearing a corn plaster for a sprained ankle. See your dentist. Ask if examination by orthodontist is in order.

Not Used for TMJ: The muscles and ligaments that cause your jaw to move are not working smoothly. If you chew gum stop. Eat softer foods next 2-3 weeks. Apply moist heat to the joint area. Stress plays a big role in triggering TMJ problems. Find activities to help reduce your stress level. See your dentist for more detailed help.

Treat cause not symp: Ear drops are not for helping with tmj/tmd issues. Ear symptoms can be one sign of a TMJ problem, but ear drops may not even help the ears. See an ent.
