A member asked:

How long does a palate expander is used before you get braces?

Age dependent: At 45 palatal expansion must be accomplished with surgical intervention. In a child only an expander is required. Expansion is accomplished over a matter of weeks, and then stabilized for a few months. Please ask a qualified orthodontic specialist exactly what your needs and treatment options are as no two people are alike.

May Vary: The time spent with palate expander will vary depending on your individual situation, because every patient responds differently. After the initial 6 weeks of expansion, the expander will remain in the mouth for 2 to 6 months.
