Age dependent: At 45 palatal expansion must be accomplished with surgical intervention. In a child only an expander is required. Expansion is accomplished over a matter of weeks, and then stabilized for a few months. May Vary: The time spent with palate expander will vary depending on your individual situation, because every patient responds differently. After the initial 6 weeks of expansion, the expander will remain in the mouth for 2 to 6 months.
