It depends: "normal" here actually means it is at least the level of 95% of the population, but given that much of the population suffers from adrenal fatigue normal does not mean optimal. And while the average for 24 hours is "normal" there may be some times of the day when it is lower than it should be. Yes: A 24hr urinary free cortisol is a screening test for cushings syndrome. It is not usually used in adrenal insufficiency. Cushings syndrome is an overproduction of cortisol/steroids as opposed to the underproduction of cortisol/steroids in adrenal insufficiency.
