A member asked:

My blood sodium level has been low one time and is always low normal. i also i have high urine sodium. i have symptons of muscle cramping, temperature intolerance, and thirst. could this be secondary adrenal insufficiency?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Adrenal insufficiency does cause low serum sodium but the potassium is usually high. Since your urinary sodium level is inappropriately high, inappropriate serum antidiuretic hormone syndrome could be present& would explain low serum sodium but this can occur in adrenal insufficiency. Drinking too much water is another causes of low serum sodium but urine sodium wouldn't be elevated. ?endocrinolo
