Chest xray: The pa is taken so that xray travels from the back toward the chest. Ap is taken so that the xray travels from the chest toward the back.

Explanation: Pa stands for postero-anterior, which is preferred to the ap (antero-posterior view) as it shows better the chest structures in the frontal dimension. A lateral view is added to the pa view for a thorough evaluation of all the spaces in the chest, although for screening, the pa view is most commonly the only view obtained.
