A " normal " : Chest x ray consists of 2 pictures. One is shot through the chest from one armpit to the other , or laterally.The other picture is shot from the back to front of the chest , or posterior to anterior ( pa). A routine cxr consists of 2 films taken from the perspective of " pa and lateral".Of course , the lungs reside in the chest and that is how we x-ray them.
